CONTRIBUTORS JAKE STERN (03) JOSEFINE ÅS (01) Josefine Ås is a Swedish freelance journalist and communica-tions manager who lives in La Grave, France with her moun-tain guide husband and two teenage children. Josefine has raised a family of passionate skiers and her kids have grown up exploring mountains off the beaten track. As a journalist, she likes to portray the many unique characters in the mountain world, as well as some of skiing’s special places. Her work has been published in Sweden’s Åka Skidor and Magasin Åre, Nor-way’s D2 , Canada’s SBC Skier , Snow magazine, and Patagonia’s The Cleanest Line , among others. Josefine and photographer Mattias Fredriksson have worked together off and on for 25 years, ever since they started up a core Swedish ski magazine Vertikal in their early 20s. Jake Stern became a skier when he finally realized climbing was just too scary. Now he bounces around mountain towns writing and editing to feed his insatiable ski habit. He cur-rently resides in Denver, CO, trying to give the nine-to-five thing an honest shot. His work has appeared in Powder (where he was assistant editor) and Freeskier (where he is currently serving as digital editor). When he›s not bashing bumps, chasing down a story, or climbing long, moderate trad routes, you can find him sipping a mai tai in the sun. TOM WALLISCH (04) Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, Tom Wallisch is best known for his rail skills and smooth style on skis. Tom holds the Guinness World Record for longest rail slide as well as many X Games medals, including a gold in 2012. After stepping away from competitions, Tom has continued to ski professionally while also creating movies and content for brands all over the world with Good Company Ski Films. Tom has stayed deeply involved with the sport through commentating World Cup events, and hosting events such as the Steel City Showdown as well. JUDITH KASIAMA (02) Judith Kasiama is a content creator, community activist and founder of Colour the Trails, a socially conscious business that focuses on getting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color out in nature by offering low barriers to entry. She resides on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Indigenous territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. A former refugee from the The Democratic Republic of the Congo, she was raised in South Africa, Australia, The United States, and Canada. Through conversation and grace, her work draws attention to underrepresented minorities changing the narrative around people of color actively participating in the outdoors. Judith is a fellow at the Royal Canadian Geographi-cal Society and believes community starts with an invitation. CHRIS WHITAKER (05) Born and raised in North Carolina, Chris Whitaker is a photographer who has lived in Salt Lake City, UT since 2008. In the winter, you will usually find him skiing or shooting at Alta or in the Wasatch backcountry. In the summer, he is constantly striving to be the most creative wedding and elopement photographer out there. His passions include the mountains, the Utah desert and the ocean.
