TOP TO BOTTOM I’ll never forget the moment I got a call to go shoot with one of my childhood ski heroes, Eric Pollard. I was working full time at Sugarloaf and got a ping on a Tuesday afternoon seeing if I could scramble out to Idaho by Saturday to join him and Karl Fostvedt. I sprinted to my boss, Ethan Austin, and blurted out the situation at a million words a minute. He just laughed and told me, “I’m not going to say no.” I can’t thank him enough for that. Eric Pollard, hand drag off a windlip, Sun Valley, ID backcountry, 2016. This was one of my first “real” photo assignments and I couldn’t believe I was actually shooting with Pollard. We were on the grind during that trip, with early morning starts and late-evening returns to base, but I really appreciated that he was all about get-ting the shot and waiting for the right mo-ments. They say don’t meet your heroes, but in this case, I’m damn glad I did. 088 The Ski Journal
