CONTRIBUTORS BRIAN CORNELL (01) Brian Cornell is a writer, observer and sporadic nomadic. He grew up in Front Royal, VA, and currently lives in Mis-soula, MT. Brian has self-published two books, including a narrative about his 2018 thru-hike of the Continental Divide Trail. When not scribbling in a notebook or planning his next adventure, he enjoys reading, bipedal wandering and inten-tionally misplacing his phone. In a past life, Brian was a ski bum and is destined to return to the lifestyle at some point. 01 RICK FINDLER (02) Rick Findler is an award-winning photojournalist based in London, England. His work focuses on both domestic and in-ternational issues, and he travels to some of the most dangerous places on Earth to document to shine a light on other people’s stories. As an independent photographer, Findler is a regular contributor to The Guardian , The Times and The Telegraph , and has published images across the world with publications such as The Washington Post . He has also produced photography for books such as Inside ISIS: The Brutal Rise of a Terrorist Army . Before chasing stories behind the lens, he spent part of his childhood skiing around Lake Tahoe, CA. 02 03 ALEX LEE (03) Alex Lee is a writer, skier, mountaineer, fisherman, dog walker, wanderer of wild places and environmental philoso-pher. He studies moral obligations and environmental change from his home in the subarctic where he is assistant professor of philosophy at the Institute of Culture and Environment at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, AK. Alex earned his doctorate in environmental ethics from the University of Colorado Boulder and has worked as a guide, naturalist and teacher in Alaska for a decade. He has contributed essays and opinions to Grist, High Country News , Powder , The Anchorage Daily New s, WildSnow.com and beyond. He also cohosts a new climate change and philosophy podcast, A Hostile Climate (set to come out in early 2022). When not in a classroom or punching a keyboard, Alex can usually be found in the mountains. 04 05 MAXIME RAMOUL (04) Board culture “hacktivist” and casual cook, Maxime Ramoul was raised in the French freeski scene. Pragmatic and nomadic, his work lands somewhere between photo diary and documentary. Eschewing staged photography, Ramoul works to show reality as he sees it—an authentic and organic testimony that he captures exclusively on film. In addition to this magazine, his photogra-phy has earned recognition from Red Bull Illume. EMILY SULLIVAN (05) Emily Sullivan is a writer and photographer who never quit her 35mm film habit. She sits on the board of directors for the Alaska Avalanche School, serves as a Denali rescue volunteer, and was recently named captain of the Voilé ski ambassador team. Most of her time on skis is spent traveling uphill in search of solitude, lines less ridden and hues only found in the far north. Emily lives in Anchorage, AK, and recreates in gratitude on the lands of the Dena’ina people. 100 The Ski Journal
