In early season when the Hakuba, Japan avy fences weren’t fully filled in, Zach Paley took advantage of flat-light conditions to score some deep turns. The skiing was good, but iron is much harder to crash into than a tree—something we all learned once or twice that week. Our local snowboard friend Ryota showed Miles Clark and I that even at the little resort of Myoko, Japan, we can get tons of powder below tree line.
