COVER “With the weather forecasted to change, this was our last day camp-ing on Alaska’s Dall Glacier. Most of the snow had gone to shit, but this north-facing pocket was our last hope. Robin Van Gyn and I built a jump coming out of the ice. It was super poppy and not ideal, but a shifty is one of my favorite feelings and I needed to stomp it quickly before the shade swooped in. With little time to warm up and session, it worked out well enough.”—Michelle Parker. Read more from Parker and company’s Alaskan adventure beginning on page 062. I had just gotten back to town and hadn’t seen the mountain in a few storms and was amazed by how filled in everything was. Sisters are usually a pair of columns with a variety of lines around them. I had never seen a takeoff though. Even with a lot of snow, it was a narrow, dicey inrun. Still, Trevor and Connery nailed it, and a whole posse showed up right behind them to hit a spot I’d never seen hit in 30 years of skiing at the resort.” Photo: Jeff Engerbretson 02 • “On his last evening in Salt Lake City, Henrik Harlaut wanted to end the trip with a bang. The plan was to 50-50 the big ledge and land in the water. After hours of trying, pushing my ISO to the max and pulling our cars up to shine our headlights on the ledge, we still hadn’t got-ten the clip. Exhausted, we called it a night. While most people would have just given up, Henrik commented that his flight wasn’t until noon the next day. So, of course, he decided to come back for one more go. Late the next morning, just a few hours before his flight departed, Henrik laced the trick and rode away through the water. Completely soaked and still in his ski gear, Henrik drove straight to the airport and made it on his flight back to Andorra.” Photo: Andrew Napier 03 • An eagle eye view of Henrik Windstedt making the most of the iconic spines in Haines, AK. Fitting, as the Alaska town is home to Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, one of the largest bald eagle feeding zones in the world. I had a shot in mind for the full moon and he was pumped on the idea, so we linked up and went for it. This is the ‘speed check’ before we shot the moon.” Photo: Alex Zimmerman 06 • “Inspired by Daniel Kukla, a New York-based artist, I had this idea of using mirrors to shoot skiing last winter. This kind of collage let me add a second, opposite perspective to the shot. They ink each Howitzer round so that if a dud is found some-where on the mountain, they can determine which lot it came from.” Photo: Lee Cohen 08 • Joel Pollinger bites into a tasty line with a little extra frosting on top. There weren’t a lot of deep days in Engelberg, Switzerland last year, making this turn all that much sweeter. Photo: Oskar Enander
