ELECTRIC SLIDE REWIND Photo and Caption CHRIS MURRAY Theo Meiners was a little bit wound up about the slope in his Valdez Heli-Ski Guides tenure in 1996. Micah Black, Todd and Steve Jones and I were deliberating as well, when I volunteered to drop in first. It was outrageous, like there was electricity in the air that you could reach out and touch. The conditions were incredible, bil-lowing face shots all the way to where I set up on a sustained super steep slope. Todd and Steve were shooting their first movie and I don’t think they even had the name Teton Gravity Research yet, but I could be wrong. They had been fishing up there the summer prior so they could make a movie and buy equipment. These dudes were about as hardcore as could be--some real skids. We all were. The winter prior I had lived in a station wagon all spring around Valdez. I reached an island of safety, Steve followed, and we set up waiting for Micah. As soon as he skied by, we knew we had something incredible. After we got our shots, we all skied down together into the darkness. It was probably the best run I’ve ever had. 100 The Ski Journal
