COVER “It’s always a pleasure to get out with Parker White and Chris Logan; they have such a great sense of humor and attitude, never taking anything too seriously while still creating amazing films and skiing with such progressive and playful style. This was a sleeper morning in the Whistler, BC backcountry, and this shot of Parker was my first of the day. In my 20 years of living here, I have never seen things so loaded with snow.” Photo: Blake Jorgenson TIPS UP 01 • “I was in Jackson Hole, WY one early afternoon in January 2017, when I got a call from Sage Cattabriga-Alosa. He was home in Bend, OR, and said it might be worth it for me to make the drive west. I did, and it only took a few turns the next morning to know Sage had been right. He usually is.” Photo: Nic Alegre 02 • “In the spring of 2017, myself and four buddies—spearheaded by neighbor Chris Rowat—headed to the Yukon to climb Mount Logan, which, at 19,511 feet, is Canada’s highest peak. We reached the summit in 15 days and descended in another two, but at the beginning we were hit with 60 mph winds and even a few earthquakes. We waited out the weather with boredom and trepidation, wondering if the tent’s nylon would hold.” Photo: Steve Ogle 03 • Dash Longe keeps it pinned while shooting at Chatter Creek, BC with Teton Gravity Research for their 2017 film, Rogue Elements . Once it was, however, the crew immediately started throwing down. It was a great place to shoot with Angel Collinson, one of the most precise, powerful and elegant skiers in the world.” Photo: Nic Alegre 07 • “Even though Squaw Valley, CA is one of the most popular resorts in the western United States, you can still find secret stashes. This winter was unbelievable in the Sierras, and this day was no exception—beautiful, deep powder, right in the resort. I was happy to show Todd Ligare the goods, a reward after months of shoveling and crazy weather.” Photo: Jeff Engerbretson 08 • “Engelberg, Switzerland is mostly known for its deep powder runs, but what do you do when the wind has been blasting the mountain for three days straight? You run laps right next to the piste, of course. I love how the old turns are now the highest points in the snow, adding texture to the already interesting terrain.” Photo: Johan Axelsson 09 • “The backcountry around Pemberton, BC is huge, and you want to have a solid plan before heading out or you’ll spend all day snowmobiling around burning gas. Ben Smith had never been to this area, and in each new valley he would point out all the potential features—including this step-down, which he styled with a switch 540 double grab.” Photo: Ben Girardi
