CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT After a half dozen miles on trail in ski boots we were (once again) perhaps too eager to get on snow. A suspect creek crossing over a series of deadfall bridges delivered us to snowier northern aspects. Lightweight boots made lighter with tears and holes in the boot gaiters and liners. They matched the holes in Matt’s party shirt. Tools not jewels. The Grenadiers, as viewed from the ridge above Silverton local Isaiah Branch-Boyle’s cabin. From left to right: the Trinity couloirs, Vestal Peak and Wham Ridge (center snowfield) and Arrow Peak. The dream line on Arrow Peak connects the upper looker’s right hanging shelf from the notch to the lower hanging shelf, then exits through a pinner couloir. There’s little beta and public record of descents in the Weminuche, but given the talent (and secrecy) of locals, it’s possible the line has seen other descents. We referred to the line as “Broken Arrow,” because it required a short 15-yard rappel to connect the two hanging faces. Photos: Thor Retzlaff
